History Of Robson Street
Spanning two and a half miles, Robson Street is the name given to not only the thoroughfare of that name, but its surrounding shopping streets including Burrard Street and Granville Street. Named after John Robson, a prominent leader of the Canadian Confederation in the late Victorian era, the area has become synonymous with glitzy fashion, high end hotels like our very own Vancouver Hermitage Hotel and culture.

As mentioned, Robson Street is a large district that runs for more than a mile, acting as a spine through Downtown Vancouver, the West End all the way to the edge of Stanley Park. Easily reachable from the L’Hermitage hotel with two bedroom suites on Richards Street, Robson Street is just a one minute walk down the road.
Where To Shop On Robson Street
With most shops located between Burrard and Jervis, there is a lot to see on Robson Street. From Mink Mile’s boutique fashion stores to homeware, vintage and antiques, department stores such as Indigo and Muji make for deep dive discoveries. There’s a wealth of designer stores too, including an Arcteryx and COS outlet.
Museums On Robson Street
If you’re worn out by shopping, never fear, there’s a wealth of museums and galleries to explore on this high end downtown road. One of the most prominent is the Vancouver Art Gallery. Once a city courthouse, the gallery now showcases more than 12,000 different works by Canadian artists, whilst also hosting travelling exhibitions.
Other standouts in the Robson area include the Roedde House Museum on Barclay Street, where a Queen Anne Revival style Victorian townhouse has been restored to its original condition and serves as a local history museum. Standout venues include the historic Commodore Ballroom on Granville Street, known as one of Vancouver’s most legendary nightclubs and touring music venues. Theatres for drama, dance and comedy include the Centre For Performing Arts, which hosts film festivals, theatre productions, lectures and gigs. Another standout is the 1927 built Orpheum Theatre, which is home to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and is well known for its beautiful interior.
