Your Guide to Vancouver’s Coolest Neighborhoods
Vancouver is one of those effortlessly cool places. It has been voted as one of the best cities in the world to live in for the last decade, and offers pretty much anything you could possibly want.
It’s 20 minutes from two ski hills and 1 hour from the world famous Whistler; you can hike, mountain bike and climb pretty much everywhere, and the food is fantastic- what’s not to love?
There are some spots in the city that are better than others though, so book a room in the stunning L’Hermitage Hotel, one of the best Vancouver boutique hotels, for a wonderfully central location from which you can explore the best bits. Let’s take a look at the coolest places Vancouver has to offer.
Main Street
Main Street is compared to Brooklyn by many people who visit. It is a cultural hub nestled right in the city centre and is absolutely packed with incredible cafes, micro-breweries, bars and restaurants.
If you’re looking for somewhere to have an amazing coffee, a home brewed IPA and gorgeous vegan lunch, then this is the place for you.
Railtown
Railtown is the emerging new ‘hipster’ hotspot in town. Located in a previously unused industrial area this neighbourhood is turning the old into the new- and it’s doing it with style.
You’ll find stunning architecture that houses incredible interior design shops, amazing restaurants and a fair share of the city’s tech businesses all in converted warehouses and disused factories.
Granville Island
Granville Island was, not too long ago, an industrial wasteland in the heart of the city. Now it is home to one of the very best food markets in the country- and a water park for the kids!
This is the place to be for good food in the city, and many of the incredible surrounding restaurants by their produce and seafood straight from these markets. It is a stone’s throw from your Vancouver accommodation near Granville Island; in fact you could easily walk there for breakfast from L’Hermitage!
Chinatown
Vacnouver has an incredibly diverse population, and one of the largest ethnic groups in the city is Chinese. After the railroads were built in the 19th century the Asian workers had nowhere to go, and one of the places they settled was Vancouver.
Now the city’s Chinatown District is one of the most beautiful and popular in the city. Head there for amazing festivals, stunning food and fantastic architecture.
Kitsilano
Kitsilano (or ‘Kits’ if you’re a super cool local) is the most laid back area in the city. The beach bum vibes are pervasive, and the chilled and relaxed atmosphere is a total change from the hustle and bustle of the city.
There are stunning beaches, an amazing seafront walkway and restaurants, and some beautiful parks. If you’re looking to relax and enjoy the beach, then this is the place for you.
Incredible Vancouver
So there you have it, some of the incredibly cool neighborhoods on offer in the fantastic city of Vancouver. Exploration is key if you’re looking to get to know the true beauty of Vancouver, so get out there; walk the streets, try the food and meet the people in these awesome districts.
